Machine Learning: Photon Physics

The fascinating world of Physics

We know teachers often lack the right tools to engage children properly in their physics classes. Getting the essence of amazing physical phenomena and boring theory at the same time is difficult. With the Photon Physics kit, your students will have an excellent opportunity to rediscover the world of experiments and enjoy hands-on activities. Inspire your students and show them the most exciting side of physics!

What does a typical lesson look like?

The Physics teaching kit facilitates teaching of physics in Junior Cycle Secondary School. It includes a set of original lesson scenarios, practical accessories, and a dedicated app – so that any teacher is able to conduct experiments “with a single click”. The kit with the Photon Robot allows students to explore the world of physics through unconventional and exciting experiments, increasing engagement and enhancing learning.

Practical teaching aids

With the Photon Physics Kit, students have the chance to bring together theory and practice. The Photon Robot allows students to learn about the world and the key principles of physics through interesting experiments in an exciting way. As a result, the children are more engaged and learn more effectively. They learn how to work in a group, where the tasks assigned to individuals impact the entire team’s success later.

Topics covered in the Physics Kit

1. Unit and measurements - 45 minutes
2. How to conduct experiments - 45 minutes
3. Force and its characteristics - 45 minutes
4. Motion and its relativity - 45 minutes
5. Uniform linear motion - 45 minutes
6. Non-uniform motion - 45 minutes
7. Analysis of graphs - 45 minutes
8. Work, power, energy - 45 minutes
9. Sound pitch and volume - 45 minutes
10. Light scattering and reflection - 45 minutes

Sample Activity: Exploring Force

At the start of the lesson, the teacher introduces the concept of force and explains that it is a vector quantity. Students then complete exercises on their worksheets to reinforce their understanding.

The teacher demonstrates how to measure force by attaching a spring scale to the Photon robot using a harness from the Physics Kit. After lifting the robot, the students read the measurement on the scale, paying close attention to accuracy. They then draw a diagram of the experiment in their worksheets, indicating the force vectors acting on the robot.

Next, students measure the pulling force of the Photon robot with the spring scale, recording their findings and discussing the results as a class.

Sample Lesson: Understanding Uniform Linear Motion

The teacher explains uniform motion and speed, introducing the formula s=d/ts = d / t. Students then calculate speed based on the information provided.

Volunteers are chosen to use the app, where they enter the time and distance for the robot’s journey. With the teacher's guidance, students prepare to measure the robot's travel distance and time. After launching the robot using the app, they record the distance (d) and time (t) on their worksheets.

Finally, students create a graph plotting distance against time. The teacher informs them that the Photon travels at a base speed of 8 cm/s and asks how far the robot would travel in various time frames: 10 seconds, 2 minutes, and an hour. This practical exercise helps them understand the relationship between speed, distance, and time in a fun and interactive way.
