The BBC Micro:bit is a single-board computer that was originally developed for educational purposes only. But due to the great demand, this handicraft computer is not only available on the free market, but also in the second version.

The mini computer with a size of 40 x 50 mm is aimed at both beginners and experienced hobbyists. Four programming interfaces are available for the developer board: Code Kingdoms JavaScript, Microsoft Blocks, Microsoft Touch Develop and MicroPython. This allows programming graphically or via text editor. In addition to programming on a PC via USB connection, programming via smartphone or tablet is also practical.

- 5 x 5 LED matrix to display flashing text, alphanumeric characters and patterns
- two programmable keys (A & B) for use as a game controller, control music on your own smartphone and much more
- Onboard motion detector and digital accelerometer to detect movements like shaking, tilting or free fall
- built-in compass to record your movements
- Bluetooth technology: Connect your Micro:bit to other Micro:bits, smartphones, tablets, cameras or other bluetooth enabled devices
- five inputs and outputs (2 for power supply, 3 for free disposal) to control motors, robots etc.
- via a 20 pin edge connector the Micro:bit can be connected to other devices like the Raspberry Pi, Arduino, Galileo and Kano via a standard connector
- through a separately controlled micro-USB controller, the miniature PC is displayed as an ordinary memory stick on your desktop PC
- Operation via micro USB socket to PC or portable via 2 micro batteries
